Description
This is a lovely album put together with much care. It features Pre and Post Independence periods, starting in the 1930's. It also features some Japanese Occupation Postage. Pre-World War II Burmese postage stamps reflect a rich history and cultural heritage, primarily produced during British colonial rule. Some of the unique features of these stamps include: Some stamps have been used, and others are unused (please see photos) 1. **Designs and Themes**: Early stamps often featured intricate designs, including local flora, fauna, and iconic symbols of Burmese culture, such as the peacock and various traditional motifs. 2. **British Influence**: Stamps produced during the British colonial period (1886-1948) included portraits of British monarchs, particularly Queen Victoria and King George V. This represented the administrative control of Britain over Burma. 3. **Varieties**: Stamps came in various denominations and colors, with many surcharged for different postal rates. There were also overprints to adapt to changes in postal services. 4. **Post-Independence Influences**: In the 1930s, designs began to reflect a growing sense of national identity, featuring local landmarks and cultural icons. 5. **Printing Techniques**: Stamps were produced using various printing techniques, including lithography and typography, which contributed to the diversity in quality and design. Overall, these stamps are not just postal items but also historical artifacts that tell the story of Burma's colonial past and its evolving identity. Collectors often seek them for their aesthetic appeal and historical significance.
